Start: Pec pod Sněžkou – Warm-up & first stamp
It starts in the mountain village Pec pod Sněžkou. Early in the morning, the trails here fill with hikers heading towards Sněžka (Schneekoppe). Perfect as a reward after your hike or as a souvenir in your backpack
Summit 1: Ascent to Schneekoppe (Sněžka, 1,603 m)
The highest point in the Czech Republic is a must-see. The climb is steep, rocky, and strenuous. But you’ll be rewarded with sweeping views across Bohemia and Poland. A strong wind often blows at the top – don’t forget your jacket. You’ll quickly realize: this isn’t a leisurely stroll, but genuine mountain terrain.
Brewery stop 1: Luční bouda – beer at 1,410 meters
After the descent you reach the legendary Luční bouda. This historic mountain hut is more than just a mountain lodge: it houses the Highest brewery in Central Europe. That alone makes stopping mandatory.
The beer is brewed right on site, and the water comes from their own spring. Especially popular are the robust Paroháč or a refreshing Helles after a strenuous hike. The first glass tastes twice as good on the terrace overlooking the expansive meadows. This is where the motto “Hiking with a reward” truly comes to life.
Summits 2 & 3: Over the ridges towards the west
From Luční bouda, the trail continues across the open high plateaus. The landscape has an almost Scandinavian feel: grass, moorland, low shrubs, and frequent sweeping vistas. You cross several smaller peaks and ridges, steadily gaining altitude and enjoying long, peaceful stretches far from the hustle and bustle of Sněžka (Schneekoppe).
Here, the individual mountain is less important than the overall experience: the feeling of traveling above the valley for hours.
Brewery Stop 2: Labská bouda & Mountain Beer Atmosphere
At the Labská bouda the next stop awaits. This modern mountain hut is known for its hearty cuisine and well-poured beer. Not a classic craft concept, but just right for a large portion of goulash or dumplings after many kilometers. You sit together with other hikers, exchange route tips – and suddenly everything feels like a little mountain adventure
Summit 4: Panoramic trails & long descents
The trail becomes more varied now: narrow paths, stony steps, short stretches of forest. Your legs are starting to feel heavy, but it’s precisely now that the most beautiful views appear. The terrain opens up again and again, revealing vistas of the valley. On a clear day, you can see for miles.
Brewery Stop 3: Dvoračky or small breweries
Depending on the route, a stop at the Dvoračky Mountain Hut or in smaller huts along the trail. Here you can often find regional beers on tap and simple Czech home cooking. Nothing fancy – but honest, inexpensive, and exactly what you need after a long day’s hike
Final: Back to Pec – closing at the Pecký pivovar
After the latest relegation, the circle closes again in Pec. Now you’ve truly earned your final beer. In Pecký pivovar You can try different varieties, take bottles with you, or simply sit on the terrace and reflect on the tour. Tired legs, rosy cheeks, cold beer – a hiking day hardly feels better
Practical tips for the beer trail
- Start early – the weather can change quickly
- Bring plenty of water (beer is no substitute for drinking 😉)
- Sturdy shoes are mandatory
- Staying overnight in a mountain hut makes the tour more relaxing
- Bring cash – not every hut accepts cards.
Why this tour is so special
The Giant Mountains Beer Trail combines two typically Czech passions: nature and beer. It’s not about drinking as many glasses as possible, but about the experience in between – the exertion, the view, the arrival. And that’s precisely why every beer tastes better at the end than any drink in the valley
So if you’re in the mood for a hike that’s both physically challenging and deliciously rewarding, then lace up your boots. Five peaks. Five beers. And a day you won’t soon forget.
