The hike begins in the charming medieval town of Loket, which sits spectacularly atop a granite rock, almost entirely surrounded by the Eger (Ohře) enclosed. The view of the majestic Loket Castle Right at the beginning of the tour is a real highlight and sets the tone for the impressions to come.

Along the Eger

From the city center, the path leads directly to the riverbanks of the Eger. The hike follows a well-marked trail. Eger Cycle Path (Route 204). The route here is relatively flat, ideal for a leisurely stroll, while canoeists frequently pass by, making their way down the river to Karlovy Vary. The dense Bohemian Forests They provide pleasant shade in the summer and create an idyllic natural setting.

National Natural Monument Hans Heiling Rocks (Svatošské skály)

About halfway along the route you reach the impressive Granite formations of the Hans Heiling Rocks. The rock towers, reaching up to 50 meters in height, resemble a petrified procession – according to legend, they represent the wedding party of the groom, Hans Heiling, his bride, the best men, and musicians. The rocks are a popular destination for climbers, and directly opposite, inviting restaurants and cafes beckon visitors. Jan Svatoš to rest.

The suspension bridges

A striking feature of the tour is the Suspension bridges over the Eger river. The so-called “swing bridge” is particularly striking, spanning the river right by the rocks. Note: Some sections of the bridge have been closed in the past, but well-marked detours via newer bridges, e.g., near the campsite, are usually in place.

Return to Loket

The return journey can either be made along the riverbank or – for a nice circular route – through the higher-lying forests of the Kaiserwald. While the route along the river remains flat, the forest variant includes some steeper climbs, but rewards with peace and quiet away from the cycle paths and magnificent views of the valley.
