Vinohrady: A stroll through Prague’s most elegant district

Forget the Old Town for a moment. If you want to know where the people of Prague live, enjoy their coffee, and celebrate the sunset, you have to go to… Vinohrady. The district boasts magnificent Art Nouveau facades, expansive parks, and a gastronomy scene that is second to none.

📍 Why Vinohrady?

The name means “vineyards”—and wine is still cultivated here today. It’s a neighborhood with a high quality of life: wide streets, plenty of greenery, and a relaxed atmosphere away from the souvenir shops.

The perfect route: From church to vineyard

This walk takes approximately 2-3 hours (depending on coffee breaks) and shows you the highlights of the neighborhood:

  1. Náměstí Míru (Peace Square): Start at the impressive neo-Gothic St. Ludmila Church. One of the most beautiful Christmas markets takes place here in winter.
  2. Americká Street: Stroll along this street and admire the architecture. Here you’ll find many small boutiques and hidden cafes.
  3. Bezručovy sady: A small park path that leads you directly to the next highlight.
  4. Grébovka (Havlíčkovy sady): My absolute favorite place. An Italian-style park with an artificial grotto and a historic vineyard pavilion.
  5. Jiřího z Poděbrad (JZP): The modern heart of the district. The striking Plečnik Church stands here, and a great farmers’ market is held regularly.

Restaurant tips: Where the locals eat

☕ Coffee & Breakfast

Café MOMOICHI: Japanese-inspired, minimalist, and fantastic tea/coffee.
Antonínovo pekařství: The best bakery for fresh Czech pastries.

🍴 Dinner & Wine

Vinohradský Parliament: Modern Czech cuisine and perfectly poured Staropramen.
Viniční altán: Drink a glass of wine right in the vineyard of Grébovka.
