Prague’s parks by district: Stromovka (Holešovice) vs. Ladronka (Břevnov) vs. Grébovka (Vinohrady)

Prague It’s not just a city of towers, bridges, and cobblestones. Hidden between the old town alleys, beer gardens, and trams are a surprising number of green oases. And it’s precisely these that make everyday life here so pleasant. Just a ten-minute tram ride – and suddenly you’re standing in a meadow, hearing birds instead of traffic, and completely forgetting that you’re in a metropolis.

If you’re staying in Prague for a longer period or want to experience the city like a local, you should definitely spend time in the parks. Three of them stand out in particular: the huge Stromovka in Holešovice, the sporting one Ladronka in Břevnov and the elegant Grébovka in Vinohrady. Each park has its own unique character. And depending on your mood, a different one might be more suitable.

Stromovka – the green lung of Holešovice

The Stromovka For many, it’s the most beautiful park in the city – and also the largest. Formerly a royal hunting ground, the area is now a vast landscaped park with ancient trees, ponds, wide meadows, and long paths. As soon as you walk through one of the gates, Prague suddenly feels a world away.

Here you have space. Lots and lots of space. Families picnic on the grass, students read under the trees, joggers do their laps, and slacklines hang between the trunks. Yet it never feels crowded. The vastness simply absorbs the crowds.

What’s particularly beautiful is the blend of nature and tranquility. Small bridges span streams, ducks swim on the ponds, the trees turn golden in autumn, and everything blooms at once in spring. For me, it’s the perfect place to simply do nothing.

My tip: Grab a coffee or a snack in Holešovice and then wander aimlessly through the paths. That’s the best way to discover the most beautiful spots.

Ladronka – Sports, Sunset & local vibes in Břevnov

The feeling is completely different. Ladronka While Stromovka has a soft and romantic feel, Ladronka is open, urban, and energetic. The park is located a little outside the city center. Břevnov and attracts especially athletes and young people.

A long, wide asphalt path dominates here. Perfect for inline skaters, cyclists, runners, and longboarders. You hear wheels on the ground, see groups working out, dogs running across the meadows, and someone is always playing music somewhere. It almost feels like a giant outdoor playground.

The area is gently rolling, with sweeping views over the city. It becomes especially magical in the evenings: as the sun sets, the sky turns orange and it seems like half of Prague is sitting here on picnic blankets. Beer from backpacks, music from small speakers, a relaxed atmosphere – very local, very authentic.

My tip: Come in the evening. Bring snacks and stay until sunset – it’s one of the most beautiful spots in Prague for that.

Grébovka – elegant garden romance in Vinohrady

If Stromovka is wild and Ladronka is sporty, then the Grébovka Clearly the most elegant of Prague’s parks. Its official name is Havlíčkovy sady, and it’s located in the popular district. Vinohrady, just a few minutes from the center.

Here you immediately feel a touch of nostalgia. The park is laid out in the style of an Italian garden, with small staircases, pavilions, vineyards, and an artificial grotto. Everything looks well-maintained, almost aristocratic. Like walking through an old film.

Particularly charming: the small vineyard in the middle of the park. Yes, really. In Prague. Add to that a café in the historic pavilion and plenty of benches with views over the city’s rooftops. It’s quieter than Ladronka, but more lively than Stromovka. A perfect blend.

My tip: Sit down with a drink at the pavilion or stroll through the vineyard – especially beautiful in late summer.

Which park suits you best?

Honestly, there is no “best” park. It just depends on what you need at the time.

• Stromovka → Nature, vastness, tranquility
• Ladronka → Action, sports, sunset vibes
• Grébovka → Romance, charm, city view

I change it depending on my mood. Sometimes I need the feeling of being in the woods, sometimes exercise, sometimes just a beautiful spot with a view. And that’s exactly what makes it so special. Prague So special: You get everything – without leaving the city.

My personal routine for a perfect day

If you have time, why not combine them: coffee in the morning and a walk in the Grébovka, chilling in the afternoon Stromovka and sunset in the evening Ladronka. It sounds like a lot, but it’s totally doable with trams and metro.

This way you’ll get to know three completely different sides of Prague – and quickly realize that the city is much more than just tourist attractions. Sometimes the most beautiful moments are simply spent on a park bench overlooking greenery.
