Three routes to the summit: The best hikes
There are many ways to conquer Sněžka. Depending on your fitness level and desire for elevation gain, we have put together three routes for you:
1. The classic: Through the Riesengrund Valley (Obří důl)
Profile: Challenging | approx. 13 km (there & back) | 800 meters of elevation gain
This route starts in Pec pod Sněžkou and leads through the deeply carved glacial valley of Obří důl. You hike past steep rock faces and waterfalls before the steep, zigzagging ascent to the summit begins. The most scenic route!
2. Via the ridge path: From the Erlebachbaude
Profile: Moderate | approx. 11 km | Panoramic trail
Start above Špindlerův Mlýn (Spindlermühle). This hike follows the Czech-Polish Friendship Trail (ridge trail). You’ll have magnificent panoramic views almost the entire time and pass striking rock formations like the “Midday Stones”.
3. The comfortable option: By cable car
Profile: Easy | Cable car + short walk
The modern cable car takes you comfortably from Pec pod Sněžkou to the summit. Ideal for families or when your legs need a break. At the top, you can hike the summit plateau loop and stop for refreshments at the Czech post office (Poštovna).
