With an area of almost 24 km², Teplice isn’t a sprawling metropolis, but it doesn’t need to be. Around 50,000 people live here – just the right number to bring the city to life without making it feel overcrowded. Its size is perfect for relaxed exploration. There are even cycle paths and well-paved roads crisscrossing the city. Buses and trolleybuses connect the main points, but hey, you don’t need a metro or tram here: you can walk from one end of the city to the other in 30-45 minutes. So grab your walking shoes!
Historical roots and modern spa culture
Teplice has a long and rich history dating back to the 11th century. By the 15th century, the town was already known for its healing mineral springs, but it was the 16th century that put Teplice on the map of European spa resorts. Celebrities and high society from all over Europe flocked here to bathe in the hot springs and relax. Today, the town holds the status of a European balneological center – sounds impressive, doesn’t it? But don’t worry, Teplice remains largely undiscovered and is therefore not as crowded as, say, Karlovy Vary. In Teplice, cleanliness and order are highly valued. Smoking in public places is strictly forbidden and punishable by a hefty fine of 1000 crowns – so it’s best to leave your cigarette butt at the hotel. And if you’re thinking of throwing your trash on the street, don’t. You can also be fined for that. Not your style? No worries, there are plenty of trash cans!

The Regional Museum: History you can touch
The Teplice Regional Museum It’s located right in the heart of the historic district, directly on Castle Square. This area is home to some of Teplice’s most important sights. And hey, the museum itself is no small matter: it spans several historic buildings and offers a lot to discover.
In the exhibition halls you’ll find everything an archaeologist’s heart desires: household items, works of art, and much more unearthed during excavations in the region. The castle chapel with its well-preserved dungeon is particularly cool – a little bit of spookiness is perfectly acceptable, right?
Museum opening hours:
- Daily (except Mondays) from 10:00 to 12:00 and from 13:00 to 17:00. Tours start hourly, so don’t worry, you won’t miss anything!
The Botanical Garden: A green oasis of tranquility
Teplice also has a green side! Botanical Garden It’s a real feast for the eyes, especially after its reconstruction in the 70s. Spread across two hectares, you’ll find everything from open-air exhibits to impressive greenhouses. Speaking of greenhouses: each one is dedicated to a different climate zone. Whether it’s tropical rainforest, the Mexican desert, or the subtropics of the Himalayas – there’s something for everyone to discover here!
Incidentally, there’s a statue of the Mayan god Yuma Kaaks in front of the entrance. Don’t worry, he’s meant to protect the plants and animals!

Duchcov Castle: In the Footsteps of Casanova
Located just 8 km from Teplice Duchcov Castle And this is more than just a pretty building. The famous Casanova, the ultimate ladies’ man, spent his last years here as a librarian. Yes, this is exactly where he wrote his memoirs and ultimately died.
How do I get from Prague to Teplice?
You can reach the city of Teplice from the Czech capital. Prague By train or bus. In Teplice, the train station and bus station are close together; it’s only a 15-minute walk.
By train
Trains to Teplice depart from Prague’s main train station, located almost in the city center at Wilsonova 8. Direct flights are available every two hours from 5:22 AM until almost midnight. The distance between the cities (by train) is 123 km, and the journey takes 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Tickets can be purchased at the station ticket office, from a ticket machine or on the official Czech Railways website www.cd.cz (where you can also view the exact timetable).
By bus
Buses from Prague to Teplice depart from the Autobusové nádraží Praha Holešovice bus station, located in Prague 7. Address: Bondyho, Holešovice, 170 00 Praha 7, Czech Republic.
Tickets can be purchased at the ticket office at the bus station or online on the official website. https://florenc.cz/holesovice/index.php?site=spojeni&lan=en can be purchased.
The number of direct flights from Prague to Teplice (Czech Republic) varies on different days of the week, but most departures start at 05:05 or 07:05 and arrive at 20:05. You can always check the exact schedule on the official website of Autobusové nádraží Praha. The journey takes just over 1 hour.
